The seaside marina at Holden Beach, North Carolina had an existing wooden seawall that was damaged, deteriorating, and literally sliding into the water, rendering a dock walkway near impassable.
The status of the wall was making it difficult for the local homeowners to access their boats, as the bulkhead was pulling away from the shore and interfering with the floating boardwalk. The damage also resulted in loss of land and landscaping through erosion.
ESP joined forces with Will Richardson, general contractor and President of Richardson Marine Construction, to build a new seawall at the seaside marina. This project was funded by the Winding River Plantation, a local neighborhood community. ESP provided the materials and engineering expertise, and Richardson’s team broke ground in November of 2014 and everything was wrapped up in February of 2015, right on schedule.
The Right Materials
In the construction of a new bulkhead and completed seawall, we used our ESP 10.5 grey 20’ vinyl sheet piling. Seawalls built with ESP vinyl sheet piling are more cost efficient because they are UV resistant, unaffected by marine borers, and come with our industry-leading warranty. In addition to the financial benefits, vinyl seawalls are easy to install and maintain a consistent appearance.
